Soft Palate Repair

At Altitude Veterinary Hospital we are proud to offer soft palate repair. This is an optional procedure that is helpful for our beloved brachycephalic breeds — those with a short nose/flat face. While not all in this breed type require surgery, some have it worse than others, and normal breathing is difficult.

The purpose of the procedure is to open the airway, both in the nasal area (nares) and at the soft palate. Our CO2 laser is a very useful tool in this procedure. It reduces bleeding and inflammation and aids in recovery. Oftentimes breathing is significantly improved, and snoring is greatly reduced. This procedure is best done early in life, as a pup when breathing difficulty is first noticed.
